GIS 5050: Project Final

This week was the GIS505 Final. The final require us to take all of the skills we have arquired in the calss to data and apply them to a real-world study. The study was a Florida Power and Light Transmission Feasibility Study. We needed to create at least four maps highlighting different aspects of the study.

The first map I chose to make was a Project Area my showing the location of the Study Area for the Transmission Line in Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

FLP also needed to account for the impact to environmentally sensitive lands in the preferred corridor. I created a map displaying the conservation lands both within the study are and corridor. I also identified wetlands and uplands listed with the NWI that were impacted.

The next map I ran out of time in the making. FPL tracked the impact to residential areas in the preferred corridor and I got as far as making the buffer, but not digitizing the homes and analyzing the parcel data.

The project also tried to choose a rout t=for the Transmission line that would have the least impact of schools in the Study Area. For the next map, I used a geocoded layer from a previous lab to display the schools in Manatee County and repeated the geocoding process for schools in Sarasota County. No schools were impacted by the project.
