In this week's lab, I began creating two maps visually identifying features using USGS aerial photographs. Various elements of interpretation were utilized.
Map 1. Identifying Texture and Tone
Textures and Tones were used to identify various features on Map 1. By looking at a range of tones, I could distinguish between dense and sparse vegetation and recognize surface differences. Texture variations helped differentiate between natural and cultural landscapes.
Map 2. Identifying Features
Map 2 ground features were identified by analyzing the shape and sizes of structures, utilizing shadows for clues, and recognizing patterns in both natural and cultural elements. Features were further identified through association, by looking at the context of the surrounding features.
