GIS Portfolio

For my final project in the GIS Internship class, I was asked to create a digital GIS portfolio to showcase my best work and achievements. I chose to make my GIS Portfolio using the Wix platform because I felt a visual, web-based platform would better showcase my GIS journey than a static PDF. GIS being inherently visual is more engaging online than on a single document.

After I got the hang of building the site on the Wix platform, I realized I had only brushed the surface of what an online portfolio could do, but I think it’s something I could adapt fairly easily if I were actually on the job market and not just completing an assignment. I decided to forgo the presentation part of the assignment, but the process was still valuable. Looking back at the GIS certificate program through my portfolio and blog, it’s interesting to see the highs and lows. There are projects I’m very proud of, like learning how to use Python and ModelBuilder, and others I wish I had more time to master. Luckily, this is just the beginning!

My portfolio includes several pages to highlight different aspects of my work and experience. The Home page is the landing page with my profile image, name, and the purpose of the portfolio. The About page explains how GIS fits into my career and why I’m pursuing it, sharing my goals and professional interests. The Resume page provides a publicly accessible version of my GIS resume with my professional email so anyone can reach out. On the Selected GIS Projects page, I showcase selected projects, including maps, analyses, and a model, with brief explanations of the specialized GIS skills, software, and tools I used. I provided a link to this GIS Certificate Program Blog for anyone interested in seeing the journey. The Contact page provides a form allowing visitors to reach out directly.

Creating this portfolio was a great opportunity to reflect on my GIS Certificate Program journey and organize my work in a professional, accessible way.  Having all my work in one place makes it easy to share with potential collaborators. It was actually a pretty cool assignment to close the circle.
